Los Angeles Rams Claim Late Super Bowl Win Over Cincinnati Bengals

The Los Angeles Rams scored a late touchdown to beat the Cincinnati Bengals 23-20 in Super Bowl 56.

The Bengals were on the verge of winning their first Super Bowl, just two years after being the NFL’s worst team.

But a star-stubbed Rams roster delivered at the crucial moment, with quarterback Matthew Stafford leading a game-winning 15-play drive.

With only one minute 25 seconds left, Cooper Kupp scored his second touchdown to give the Rams a second NFL title.

The 28-year-old wide receiver was named the game’s most valuable player, adding to the Offensive Player of the Year award he won last week.

With the game taking place at the SoFi Stadium, the Rams became only the second team in history – after the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last year – to win the Super Bowl in their own stadium.

The roster has been put together at a cost of $5bn by Rams and Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke and staging the first final in the LA region since 1993, they provided a Hollywood finish.

Rams head coach Sean McVay said: “It feels outstanding. I am so proud of this team. We talk all the time about competitive greatness, about being your best when your best is required and Matt gets to finish it off – it is poetic.

“Those guys did a great job – they took over the game. World champs baby!”

Stafford himself added: “I just thank the coach for saying ‘you and Cooper Kupp go and get this thing done’, and calling plays for him.

“I kept finding ways to get him the ball, and he kept making unbelievable plays. That is what he does.”
