Alphonso Davies Injury Scare For Canada

Alphonso Davies was substituted off injured for Bayern Munich on Saturday with little more than two weeks before the World Cup kicks off in Qatar.

The Canadian limped off after 63 minutes of Bayern Munich’s 3-2 win away to Hertha Berlin with what looked like a hamstring injury.

Davies was holding the back of his right leg as he trudged off after appearing to get hurt lunging at Hertha striker Marco Richter in an attempt to get the ball. He then pulled up before being accompanied off the field by Bayern trainers.

“According to the doctors, at first glance, it is at least a muscle tear. We’ll have to wait for further tests,” said Bayern manager Julian Nagelsmann.

Canada begin their World Cup campaign against Belgium on November 23.

Meanwhile, Canadian goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau left the field on a cart several hours later after injuring his leg while playing for Los Angeles FC against Philadelphia in the MLS Cup final.

The 28-year-old, who was a candidate for some playing time in Qatar, sustained the injury after committed a red card offence.

Crepeau’s back-up John McCarthy, gave a post-game indication of the extent of the injury.

“I’m devastated for him, because it’s a serious injury and it looks like he is going to miss the World Cup,” said McCarthy, who won the MLS Cup MVP award after making two saves in the shootout win. “You are not coming out of this game for a Band-Aid.”
